IKO’s Best of British campaign highlights the benefits of sourcing products closer to home

by Jennie Ward

The manufacturer says the campaign showcases the cost, supply and sustainability benefits of working with a UK building products manufacturer, and highlights how being “a British manufacturer really comes into its own when there’s pressure on the construction materials markets abroad.”

IKO says its ‘Best of British’ campaign is a must-see for contractors and specifiers, as it highlights the cost, supply and sustainable benefits of engaging with a UK building products manufacturer.

IKO points out the issue of buying building products from a UK-based manufacturer, rather than importing from abroad, has been thrown into sharp focus due to the global construction materials shortage.

As a leading and long-established producer of high-performance waterproofing and insulation products, IKO says it is an exemplar of why buying British is particularly valuable at this time. IKO products are manufactured in four production plants across Britain. The locality of these sites – and the fact that IKO locally-sources raw materials where possible – has positive outcomes for contractors according to the manufacturer, as it results in product supply certainty, reduced lead times and good stock availability. The manufacturer says it also limits transportation times and fuel costs involved in product deliveries to site and builder’s merchants, which is an enabler to meeting a project’s environmental targets.

IKO says investing in its British-made products also buys customers peace of mind in the form of its expert Business Management and Technical teams, as they are available to offer advice on a range of issues to ensure products are suitably specified and installed correctly.

Anthony Carlyle, IKO Group Managing Director, said aside from the advantages it afforded contractors and specifiers, sourcing building products from a British manufacturer benefited the country as a whole: “Being a British manufacturer really comes into its own when there’s pressure on the construction materials markets abroad,” he explained. “We are able to respond more quickly to product demands and by using locally-sourced materials and locally-sourced labour, we help bring jobs and wealth to the UK economy.”

IKO says the Best of British campaign serves as a reminder that during these times of supply chain uncertainty, a solution is close to home. Through its UK-based manufacturing capability, IKO says it has gained a worldwide reputation for building products that deliver on quality and quantity, and along with the company’s unrivalled customer service, it means contractors stand to make considerable gains by working with a respected and trusted supplier from within these Isles, rather than looking abroad.

Anthony Carlyle concluded: “During the global raw material shortage, we’ve prioritised the UK over other markets because we work in the UK. It’s created a circle of support, with more and more contractors looking to invest in British manufacturers and the manufacturers themselves supporting customers with excellent product availability and lead times.”
