Billingham-based construction company Innovation Roofing is adding to its growing team by appointing its first female roofer. Hanna Weaver, 22, from Middlesbrough is one of two apprentices who have recently joined the expanding business.
Weaver will work alongside experienced Team Leaders to gain hands-on experience, while studying for a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations with Newcastle College at the same time.
Weaver, whose father is already in the industry, says she has always had an interest in construction and seized the opportunity to take her first step via an online advert. She said “It was clear from the beginning how welcoming Innovation Roofing would be and I am really enjoying my new career.”
Operations Director Dean Goyns said: “Hanna has made an incredible start. Her progress since joining us has been outstanding and she is already an integral part of the team. Being able to take on apprentices and give them the opportunity to learn and experience work was something we were keen to do.”
Recently, Weaver has been getting to grips with laying Marley Eternit Rivendale Slates on a six-bedroom detached farmhouse. She has been refining her slate cutting and laying skills on site, as well as taking responsibility for the site’s daily setup and clean-up.
Innovation Roofing is on target to double in size over the next six months and its imminent recruitment of two further roofing teams is likely to include more apprentices.
