Powell Gee boosts UK fixing production to meet ‘growing demand’

Powell Gee has expanded its UK manufacturing capacity with the addition of a sixth washering machine to support production of its self-drilling screws for roofing and cladding applications.

The investment forms part of the company’s commitment to retaining screw modification in-house and will provide greater flexibility when scheduling production across its washering operation.

The new machine can assemble washers onto fixings with diameters of 4.8mm, 5.5mm, 6.3mm and 7.0mm, while accommodating screw lengths from 50mm to 300mm.

Depending on the fixing specification, it can process between 100 and 400 pieces per minute, providing capacity for up to 24,000 washered fixings an hour.

Powell Gee says the additional capacity is already delivering production benefits, with fewer machine changeovers reducing downtime and enabling longer manufacturing runs.

Paul Strong, Sales Director at Powell Gee, said: “For our customers, consistent quality, dependable availability and short lead times are essential. With washering, powder coating and nylon moulding all available in-house, we offer a joined-up route from specification to supply.

“This additional washering machine increases our output and provides the capacity needed to respond to growing customer demand.”

The investment complements Powell Gee’s existing in-house powder coating and injection-moulding capabilities.

Backed by more than 30 years of powder coating experience, the company offers standard colours for next-day delivery alongside bespoke colours and matt, gloss and satin finishes.

Powell Gee also manufactures bi-hex heads from UV-stabilised nylon through injection moulding, providing corrosion resistance and helping to prevent fading from exposure to sunlight. The company will showcase its products and manufacturing capabilities at BAU 2027 at Messe München from 11–15 January, where it will exhibit in Hall B2, Stand 531.
