Rescheduled 2020 UK Roofing Awards cancelled, but judging of the awards still goes ahead

by Jennie Ward

“It is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 UK Roofing Awards live event – however, we felt strongly that the judging of the Awards should still go ahead to provide much-deserved recognition for the extremely high-calibre projects that have been submitted.”

Following the announcement of further national lockdowns across the UK, and no lifting of restrictions on large public gatherings expected any time soon, NFRC says it has taken the difficult decision to cancel the postponed 2020 UK Roofing Awards live event, previously scheduled for 28th May 2021.

However, shortlisted projects for the 2020 Awards will still undergo the scrutiny of the usual judging process, and winners for all categories will be announced to the NFRC membership, trade press and on social media in February 2021. Subject to restrictions, trophies will be presented personally or dispatched by courier.

Shortlisted projects will be shared on social media over the coming weeks prior to being judged, using the hashtags #RA2020 and #RoofingAwards2020.

NFRC says it would like to thank the following sponsors of the 2020 Awards for being so understanding about the changes:

  • Radmat Building Products
  • SIG Roofing
  • BMI
  • Axter
  • CUPA PIZARRAS
  • QA National Warranties
  • EJOT
  • Cromar Building Products
  • FAKRO
  • Marley
  • Sika
  • Chandlers Roofing Supplies
James Talman, NFRC CEO.

Commenting on the announcement, Chief Executive of NFRC, James Talman said: “It is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 UK Roofing Awards live event. With lockdown restrictions on large public gatherings expected to last well into the first half of 2021, it looks very unlikely that the 2020 Awards would have been able to take place as planned in May. However, we felt strongly that the judging of the Awards should still go ahead to provide much-deserved recognition for the extremely high-calibre projects that have been submitted. We hope to ensure that winners get as much exposure as possible and that they are also recognised at the 2021 Awards.

He added: “I encourage everyone to keep an eye on the Roofing Awards social media channels over the coming weeks and see the incredible projects that are up for an award, as well as for the big announcement of the winners in February. Whilst we can’t celebrate in person, I am sure we can all make some virtual noise to celebrate these fantastic projects.”
