Saint-Gobain Exterior Solutions has launched what it says is the first gas-fired fixing installation method specifically introduced for the UK external wall insulation (EWI) market.
Designed to improve the speed, efficiency and safety of EWI installation, the new system replaces the traditional drill-and-fix process with a single-shot gas-fired fixing that secures insulation boards directly to the substrate without pre-drilling.
For contractors and installers, Saint-Gobain says the key benefits include faster installation, reduced noise and lower exposure to hand-arm vibration.
Independent installation trials found the system could deliver installation times around 30% faster than traditional drilled fixings, potentially saving around half a day on a typical home.
Instead of the conventional three-stage process of drilling, inserting the fixing and then hammering or screwing a pin, the new method completes the fixing in a single operation.
Independent acoustic assessments also recorded a 9.2-decibel reduction in noise compared with traditional installation, while hand-arm vibration assessments found a 73% reduction in vibration exposure. This could help reduce installers’ exposure to risks associated with prolonged vibration, including hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), white finger syndrome and reduced dexterity.
The product has also undergone independent third-party evaluation and achieved ECO Innovation status.
