Marley’s campaign to raise awareness of the damaging effects of the sun’s rays on roofers and other outdoor workers generated significant funds that will help the Melanoma Fund push forward with its messaging and campaigns in 2022.
The Melanoma Fund is to benefit from donations totalling £1,000 from Marley, following the roofing experts’ successful ‘Safe in the Sun’ campaign.
The initiative sought to highlight the negative effects of damaging sunrays such as premature skin ageing, heat exhaustion, melanoma and other forms of skin cancer, particularly for those in the construction industry working outdoors.
Marley says it has been championing safety in the sun for well over fifteen years, and this year the company’s ‘Safe in the Sun’ campaign saw it focus on three important lines of defence in the fight against sun-induced illness: covering up, sunscreen use and hydration.
Marley created a ‘Safe in the Sun’ kit, designed especially for outdoor construction workers such as roofers, including a Marley-branded T shirt, sunscreen and water bottle. The kit was made available via the company’s website. Each time a kit was sent out, Marley pledged £1 for The Melanoma Fund, however the total raised for the charity will be boosted by the company to the tune of £1,000.
Commenting on its support for the Melanoma Fund Daniel Redfern, Marley’s Marketing Manager, said: “With the British Journal of Cancer revealing that construction workers represent a high proportion of deaths from melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, this is clearly a serious issue. The Melanoma Fund is on a mission to make people aware of the risks of UV exposure and the importance of regular skin checking, leading to an earlier diagnosis. Collaboration between Marley and this hard-working charity is therefore plainly a good fit, and I’m over the moon that we can make this contribution to their work.

Alongside availability of the ‘Safe in the Sun’ kit on its website, Marley included no-nonsense advice to make sure its customers were aware of the potential risks, and were properly protected throughout the summer. An all-encompassing approach made sure that all bases were covered and that every aspect of sun safety was included.
